Quality of Life: Building a Better DeKalb

A great quality of life means feeling safe, having opportunities, and being proud of where you live. Over the last four years, I’ve prioritized making DeKalb a place where everyone feels at home.

  • Safety: Greatly improved the Public Safety for all residents in the City of DeKalb through a significantly increased investment in our Police and Fire Departments.  Over 28 additional Police and Firefighters hired during my time as mayor.
  • Infrastructure: We’ve tripled spending on street resurfacing, holding landlords accountable, and focusing on creating high-quality housing options for everyone.
  • Downtown Transformation: Downtown DeKalb has blossomed into a heartwarming, vibrant space full of new dining and entertainment choices. By making the streets safer and more inviting for walking, and bringing the community together with colorful murals, we've created a place that feels like home—full of energy, safety, and a sense of belonging.
  • Progress Everywhere: By creating more jobs and improving safety and infrastructure, we’re continuing to make DeKalb a city everyone can be proud to call home.

Direct Experience: Mayor of DeKalb | President of the DeKalb Corn Classic | Downtown Property Owner
